Dr. Michel R. Nuyens is well-respected as one of the premier head and neck surgeons in Central America, regularly performing surgery to remove cancerous tumors of the thyroid, tongue, and throat. At his medical centers in Guatemala City, Integra Cancer Center and The Head and Neck Clinical Center (Centro Clinico Cabeza y Cuello), there are several specialists in various fields working in coordination to give full comprehensive care to the most complex cases of disorders related to hearing, breathing, speaking, swallowing, and balance.
Cochlear implantation has become a routine procedure worldwide for the management of severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss in children and adults. Dr. Nuyens evaluates hearing impaired patients and then determines the precise surgical placement of cochlear implants to perform the surgery with the latest state-of-the-art instrumentation. Together with the Cabeza y Cuello team, they coordinate personalized recovery plans including speech, physical, and vestibular therapies.
Dr. Nuyens is an integral member of the Head and Neck Tumor Board, which meets regularly in Guatemala City to discuss recent cancer cases. Together with surgical oncologists, hematologists, radiologists, pathologists, and other specialists, Dr. Nuyens is a valued contributor to the planning and resolution of head and neck cases. The multi-disciplinary team works in conjunction to determine a finely tuned treatment plan for each patient’s particular situation.
With cutting-edge technology and a highly qualified team of ear-nose-throat specialists at Cabeza y Cuello, patients can depend on getting fast and accurate diagnoses in a primary care setting.
Dr. Nuyens’ surgical and diagnostic experience is an outstanding resource for fifth year medical students at the Universidad Francisco Marroquin’s (UFM) Medical School, one of Guatemala’s most prestigious medical training facilities. Under the doctor’s supervision, and with practical instruction, students ultimately become confident in identifying, diagnosing, and managing diseases of the mouth, ears and throat.
Patients arrive at the Integra Medical Center offices of Dr. Nuyens from several countries around the world because they trust his superior medical skills, devotion to excellence, and genuine compassion.
